The best places to visit on an Egypt holiday

May 6, 2010

I have always thought that one day I would visit Egypt. If you think of Egypt, you naturally think of antiquities – a place where the term ‘Giza’ is not referring to a cheeky-chappy from the London’s East End!. Sun baked beaches and clear water are replaced by the thought of the great Pyramids.

If your idea of great luxury holidays involves being near or in water, then Hurghada may well be the place for you. It’s no wonder that the place is known as the ‘Red Sea Riviera’, as there is so much to do. You can do sailing, windsurfing, deep-sea fishing and diving amongst many other activities. The good thing about Hurghada and diving is that you don’t have to be an expert. Some of the world’s greatest underwater sights can be seen with just a basic snorkel.

Four miles south the southern section of Sharm El Sheikh stands on a cliff overlooking the port. and is a great view.

To find one of the centres for the tourist industry in Sharm El Sheikh, go to Na’ama Beach. Located just north of Sharm, this area is developing into a resort town of its own. Most Sharm El Sheikh hotels at Na’ama Bay have their own, private beaches with comfortable amenities such as chairs, shades and even bars.

Shark’s Bay is also nearby, and again is a growing resort community with more and more to offer, along with several diving centers.

You may not fancy the beach lifestyle, but could be more suited to the leisurely lifestyle of a Nile cruise. Nile cruises are the perfect way of seeing life as it has always been in Egypt. There are plenty of sights that should stir the emotions, having changed little over thousands of years. The tour will visit Esna, where you can see the temples of Karnak and Luxor, and stroll among the great temple of Amun Ra. The dam at Aswan would be one of the destinations on the itinary, an engineering triumph fit for the pharoahs!
